Maintenance Diet Questions Answered

Diet Questions Answered!
By HelloJody
I have pulled questions out and hope to answer some of them for you.

1. Can you eat melba toast on the maintenance phase of the hcg diet? NO. I used to think you could but A New Me updated their rules. Melba toast is no longer allowed in Phase 3, only in Phase 2.

When you start the 3 week maintenance/stabilization process, *definitely* increase your calories up to 1500. Don’t try to continue the 500 calorie diet after the hCG is out of your system, because you will become weak and tired, and go into ‘shutdown’ mode where it doesn’t burn calories, DON’T DO THIS! Your weight will stabilize. This is your body settling into the new process.
***NO STARCH OR SUGAR*** Read labels. Use healthy fats and dairy products to up your calorie intake if necessary. Drink enough water.
  • 1200 and under if you want to continue to loose
  • 1250-1500 calories to maintain for women. 1800 calories for men.
A New Me recommends the following caloric break out for maintenance:
  • 40% carbohydrates (from fruits and vegetables)
    • Women/Men = 480 calories or less, if you want to keep loosing
    • Women = 600 calories or less, if you want to maintain
    • Men = 720 calories or less, if you want to maintain
  • 30% lean proteins
    • Women/Men = 360 calories or less, if you want to keep loosing
    • Women = 450 calories or less, if you want to maintain
    • Men = 540 calories or less, if you want to maintain
  • 30% healthy fats
    • Women/Men = 360 calories or less, if you want to keep loosing
    • Women = 450 calories or less, if you want to maintain
    • Men = 540 calories or less, if you want to maintain
Be sure to read food labels, check to see if sugars or preservatives are added into a product before you buy it. Nearly every product in a can or box contains sugar in one of its many names. The first five ingredients listed on an item is the majority of the product, so be sure that sugar is not in the top five. Important: if on a label you cannot pronounce, or know EXACTLY what the ingredient is, DO NOT EAT IT!

2. Can I eat carrots in hcg phase 3? No. They are higher in carbs and sugar than other veggies. See the Phase 3 hCG Food list here:

3. Can you use cooking sprays in the hcg diet? Yes, I use Pam. Some people don’t like Pam as it is not an organic product. You can buy the Olive Oil version of PAM and use as little as possible.

4. Can you eat dairy on hcg phase 3? Yes, of course! Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, etc… but use with caution as some people it causes weight gain in excess.

5. What dressings you can have on maintenance hcg diet? Anything without sugar in it. I like Annie’s Organic Dressings – just be sure to read the labels!

6. Can you have Walden Farm products on hcg diet? Yes in Phase 3. However – they do contain sucralose which is processed. Try to limit your use of them and you should be fine. I would not use Walden Farms in Phase 2. See this post for more information: http://www.hellojody.com/2011/05/are-walden-farms-products-okay-to-use.html

7. Is there an hcg approved italian dressing? Walden Farms makes a good calorie free Italian dressing. However, in phase 2 I stick to my apple cider vinegar, braggs and lemon juice combo.

8. Is there an hcg approved ranch dressing? Again, Walden Farms makes a good calorie free Ranch dressing but only for use in Phase 3.
